Joe A. Scerri was born to Maltese parents in London where he grew up before relocating to Perth, Western Australia, where his youthful teens where spent. It was here Joe realised life\s oddities and complexities, and naturally became deeply interested in underground music at an early age. He Dj’d regularly in his late teens and early twenties at various venues including the infamous Underground Nightclub and on 6UVSFM, and spent some time creating noise with his mum’s Casio through a home-made distorted amplifier and a cheap 1980 drum machine called Dr. Rhythm. At 23, he moved to Sydney after graduating from Graphic Design to embrace a more colourful existence.
Lake Lustre began in the summer of 2000 in Sydney, experimenting with audio and manipulating samples. The first initial offering was a self released CD-R titled ‘Movement’, consisting of 8 tracks that was handed out to friends, djs and the like. With a followed amount of interest and the beginnings of exposure, Lake lustre continued to write and work towards something more substantial.
After leaving Sydney for an inspiring move to Europe, new tracks were written and tracks that appeared on Movement were reworked and given a new life. Label interest happened almost immediately after arrival in Switzerland, which prompted a debut release titled Indecipherabilia on Abflug Records. |
